Deep condition your own hair for 20 minutes or more before attaching a weave. Dry hair strands on top of extensions is not recommend. 

Hair Care Extensions Tips 

Our Gorgeous Growth is the highest quality human hair, which means you should treat it like your real hair. If you would like to maintain the hair texture and less hair shedding like your normal hair, avoid over styling your hair with heating products on daily basis. 

Nightly and before shampooing, carefully remove any tangles and gently brush through hair with a looped bristles brush designed to glide through hair extensions always starting from the ends and gently working your way up the hair extensions. Not doing so can cause unnecessary breakage of your hair extension. Please note that breakage is different from shedding. Breakage happens when you literally snap the hair strands apart from rough styling, overprocessing, and overheating. Take special care to comb out all tangles at the root of your weft. This is important because this is where the overlap is created. The overlap is where the hair was folded to create the weft.

Hair Extension Styling Tips 

To style hair extensions, use a brush or a smooth styling comb. Start at the ends and gently work your way up, brushing or combing in a downward motion. Use alcohol-free styling products on hair extensions. Avoid over-use to prevent product buildup. 

Use conditioning ionic ceramic heat styling tools whenever possible. Always do a test curl first, and use the lowest temperature level that is effective. Overuse of curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers will shorten the life of human hair extensions. 

Recommended Hair Products: Shampoos - Kera Care and Silicon products. Serums like Biosilk and Moroccan Oil are perfect styling products (after washing and conditioning the hair). Small amounts of these serums can be used in between washes and can be used to give your extensions a natural shine. 

Every hair strand has hair cuticles (see the pic on the left). 

Cuticles lay in 1 direction –however when you fold the hair there are some cuticles going upwards and some downwards. 

Little friction here and there can cause minor tangling- but daily combing in that area is essential and can complete eliminate this issue. 

Shampoo hair in the shower using a pH balanced moisturizing shampoo. The shampoo should always be slightly acidic (a pH lower than 7). This helps keep your hair cuticles closed, smooth and happy! This helps eliminate all tangling for your natural hair and hair extensions. At Gorgeous Growth Salon we use Kera Care products. These shampoos usually have a pH of about 6- which is very gentle, considering our hair, naturally, has a pH of about 5.5. This pH raises the cuticle just slightly to clean your hair so that it can be easily closed again by your conditioner. 

DO NOT LATHER THE HAIR. Instead, work the shampoo down the hair. Rinse and blot hair gently. This process eliminates tangling. Always condition your hair extensions after your wash. 

Conditioners should be very acidic-about a pH of 3. If you have the time, condition for about 15-30 mins to completely close the hair cuticle. 

Rinse the conditioner really well so there is no residue on the hair. This makes the hair very nice and FLUFFY. 

It’s best to let extensions air dry. Second best would be sitting under a hood dryer. And least best would be blow- drying. If using a dryer, set on low or medium heat and speed. 

To avoid tangling while you sleep, wrap hair up with a satin scarf or use a satin sleep cap or a satin pillow case to prevent friction. Also, allow your hair extensions to air-dry completely before going to bed. 

For Curly Hair Instructions Only: BEFORE INSTALL OR UNRAVELING- Wet hair before unraveling and installing curly hair extensions. Apply slippery conditioner to hair like V05 or Suave. While conditioner is still applied gently, comb curly hair from the ends to the weft. Comb hair thoroughly with conditioner. Rinse conditioner out. Comb hair out again while wet. Unravel, install and enjoy hair
